Said my wife after we looked through cars at some dealerships. Won't learn it for a Miata, won't learn it to drive a Subaru, but all of a sudden she'll learn how to drive stick if I get her !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

was an original SS396 from the factory, now has a rebuilt 1986 Corvette 350 motor.

So it has the worst parts of both era's?
What a great idea!

Converting anyone to stick anyway is a win.

Yeah but women only care about looks.

The 1970 looks better. To me anyway.

I do have a weakness for windowed/clear valve covers. I don't care if you have to clean them all the time, you just clean them when you need to adjust the valves.

I actually like the older ones better.

I'd say, be quiet and enjoy the fact that YOUR WIFE IS AWESOME FOR LOVING CHEVELLES.

I think it looks nice. I like the front end in the '70 better though.

So she likes American cars. What's wrong with that?

She won't learn in a Miata? Her loss.
I convinced my girlfriend at the time (now wife) to buy a manual '91 Miata to learn on. It worked, she was a natural, and I married into a Miata

As long as it's a stock pressure plate and the shifter is a dead nuts adjusted Hurst you can't go wrong.

I like her style. I'd say you found a good one.

My wife loves old Detroit iron. She hates imports. That's one of the things she doesn't like about my Miata.

She's worried about wrecking my clutch and I keep telling her not to worry about it.

Thanks.

if its a hydraulic cam you never have to adjust them unless a rocker comes loose. plus on that motor they wont get messy because the pushrod end is covered to move the oil to the fulcrum.

It is a true ss car. the vin is the giveaway on a chevelle. I bet the original 396 went sky high early in its life. its actually a rare car because 68 production was lower than 67 or 69

So let's get on with it. This one may be a little weird with the big block heritage and the small block swap. But go find one and buy it before she talks to too many of her friends and they reissue her her woman card.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 21:34 |

Yeah, but using an '86 350 is what gets me. Putting in an actual 396 back in would do wonders for the car's value.
![]() 08/27/2014 at 21:37 |

yeah just even a big block like a 454, would help. but the main thing is its a true SS car. that's a good thing at least. the chevelle is really the only chevy from the muscle car era that you can prove to be a SS and a big block car without having all the paperwork like on a Camaro or nova

I don't have to worry about my wife not liking old cars. The only hard part is convincing her to drive a manual. I honestly don't care if she drives one or not, it's her choice. I just want her to be more accepting of my next manual purchase.

But, if you're going to go through all of the effort of what is claimed to be done on it:
Blow proof bell housing, 12 bolt rear diff, 700 cfm holley carb, electric cooling fan, new interior, new headliner, new fenders, new fender wells, new rear quarter panels, new fuel and brake lines, new wheels and tires, new paint job, both bumpers straightened and chromed with street chrome, original SS hood, different steering column from automatic car, all weather stripping and most of chrome replaced, added power steering and power brakes, no radio, no a/c, new alternator and windshield wiper motor, all parts oem except alternator and wiper motor.
Why do you stick an 1986 350 into it? This leaves me questioning the owner's life choices.

probably had it lying around and stuck it in there to sell. my grandpa have done it before on a few other cars. it would get really expensive tracking down a 68 correct motor. also someone before this guy could have stuck the small block in it

Buy a Hellcat Challenger seems like she may like that

Same owner since 1982.

then he probably kept the big block for something else, done that too. bought a pickup for the 454 slapped a pieced together small block and sold the truck

I never knew these existed. Now its possible to show the moola dropped on rockers. Instead of being hidden away

My friend in Washington State learned to drive in one of these and it added just that bit more to her sexiness. She's already verrrrry sexy.
